Girl Away From Home
This editorial project visually explores the traditional attire of Kumaoni culture from Uttarakhand, India, which is gradually fading under the impact of modernization. The artist highlights the distinctiveness of Kumaoni clothing, often mistaken for Garhwali attire, by focusing on its unique details and designs. Observing that Kumaoni jewelry is frequently altered to align with contemporary trends, the project emphasizes the significance of preserving its authentic forms. The lack of visual representation of Kumaoni dress further fueled the artist’s interest in documenting this culture. Through clothing and jewelry, the project aims to capture and celebrate the essence of Kumaoni heritage.
